What is TIMS?
With the feature of Nepal as a trekking destination and its growing attraction, a condition of the trekkers’ information management system (TIMS) has been implemented to make sure safety and security of the trekker and discouraging illegal operation in trekking business. The condition of trekkers’ information management system (TIMS) Come into effect on January 1st 2008. Since then, the trekking agencies association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) started recording trekkers’ details and began issuing TIMS card to trekkers.

All foreign trekkers going on trekking in different areas of the country are compulsory to obtain a TIMS slip/certificate. Unlike Trekking Registration Certificate (TRC), the TIMS slips will be made available to trekkers in 20$. Trekking companies, who are members of TAAN, will be used as TIMS counters. The TAAN central office in Kathmandu and its regional section office in Pokhara will also issue TIMS slips. If it is necessary, NTB will open its counter to issue the slips for Individual Tourists. There are two types of TIMS Certificates: blue certificate for the organized trekkers and green certificates for free individual trekkers (FIT) Trekkers Can get a TIMS from Our Trekking Company.

1. Illegal operation in trekking business can be depressed.
2. Control the unauthorized activities in the trekking business.
3. Easier to bring out rescue operation during emergencies.
4. Tendencies of deporting trekking staffs in difficult situation can be controlled.
5. More employment opportunities for experienced guides and field staffs can be generated.
6. Easier to decrease pressure on trekking routes by diverting trekkers to other routes. This will help decrease mismanagement at the routes during peak season.
7. TIMS will upgrade the services standard and will contribute to better management of sustainable mountain tourism development in Nepal.
